Meet Judith Mouzon

Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Judith Mouzon. Currently I am a 63 + year old black female bead artist and craftier. I engage in many different art forms like, crochet, embroidery, ceramics, doll making ,baking and beading.

I got started and interested in bead work about 25 years ago.At the time, I was a Certified Nurses Aide. I got sent out to a new clients home to assist a woman recovering from breast cancer. As I walked down the hall to her bedroom , I passed by a room that I could see contained lots materials for craft work. As the client and I started getting acquainted , I asked her about what crafts she engaged in. I saw a piece of beadwork that was about 2” long and spiraled around , dancing in the light. The colors seemed to dance and sparkle, and I expressed an interest in learning more about what she was doing.

Before, I only viewed beads as wood, paper, made from apple seeds and other more mundane items. Well,! Was I in for some eye popping visuals. Beads come in a vast array of colors, external finishes, sizes, shapes, and materials. I just about popped my buttons with interest and excitement! And thus, began a journey into the world of bead weaving that has sustained me for 25 plus years. I started off with learning how to create bead work using a bead weaving technique called Peyote stitch.I think for me, it was like trying Crack for the first time...... I became instantly addicted! When I finished my first item called a Dutch Spiral necklace, I knew I just wanted to learn more about "off loom bead weaving ", And so a life long interest in bead work was born.
